How Big is my Image?

Categories: Hints & Tips, Images

You’ve got some new images for your WordPress website and want to add them.  Trouble is, you want them to be the same size as others that are already there, but you’re not sure what size that is.  Fortunately there’s a really easy way to tell; read on to find out how.

Step 1

The first thing you need to do is log in to your WordPress administration dashboard.  Once you’re there, navigate to the “Media” option on the black bar that runs down the left hand side of the screen (it’s normally near the top, below the option for “Posts”.

Step 2

The WordPress media library is where all the assets such as images, videos, PDFs etc. that are used on the website are stored.  They will be presented to you as either a ‘list’ or a ‘grid’ view. You can toggle between these two views using the icons directly below the “Media Library” heading at the top of the page.

Note: for the purpose of this example we will be viewing the images in ‘grid’ view.

Look for the image that you want to replace and click on it to open it.  You’ll see a screen similar to the one below.

Step 4

The right-hand side of the screen shows various details about the image including the dimensions. In the example below you can see the dimensions are 1200px (wide) by 800px (high).
